1996 VS 800 Suzuki Intruder
History
I bought the bike in May 2001. It only had 2,340 miles on it and was like new. It was my first bike. I put about 7,000 miles on it the first year. I averaged about 7,000 miles each year for the next two years.
In August 2003 I was about 15 miles northwest of Gaylord on some unfamiliar roads. I was traveling too fast and could not make it around a curve which came up unexpectedly. I had to lay the bike down on the side of the road. Luckily it was some soft sand-like dirt and I was only going about 15-20 mph when I laid it down. I was skinned up a little and had a limp for a few days, but nothing major.
The bike was totaled; due mostly to the cosmetic damage. Extreme Power Sports in Gaylord repaired the mechanics to get it back in a safe driving condition. They replaced the footrest assembly, clutch lever, etc. At the time of the accident, the bike had approx. 23,000 miles on it.
In June of 2004 I found a nice 1994 1400 Suzuki Intruder for a great price. Having a windshield and saddle bags along with a little more room and power, I found myself riding the 1400 most of the time. However, I still maintained and put approx. 1,000 miles per year on the VS 800. It does have a salvage title. However, being that I have put over 5,000 miles on it since the accident without any problems, I believe it is a fine running bike that will serve you for many years and many miles.
